Jose Olmos, who is homeless, was arraigned this week on murder charges for allegedly beating Nurten Jeljuk on Friday, July 27. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole.
Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr., said that early on July 27, Olmos followed the 60-year-old Seljuk "for some time" on Main Street in New Rochelle. When they reached the Naval Armory, Olmos robbed her and beat her to death. The body was found later that day and Olmos was arrested on Saturday, July 28. The cause of Seljuk's death was ultimately determined to be blunt force trauma.
Olmos is scheduled to appear back in court on Dec. 5.
